integral design
Cepezed applies an integral design method in which all aspects of a building such as the spatial design, the stability structure and the materialization, but also the installations and construction physical facilities, are forged into an indivisible whole. Herein, construction elements often fulfill several functions at the same time. Say, the stability structure can also serve as a ventilation channel, an overflow for used air sometimes simultaneously functions as soundproofing, or a windshield is also used as a sunblind and radiation reductor. Pipes and cables can be designed into integral floor systems and rainwater dischargers are not mounted alongside the façade but are for example smoothed away into shafts integrated into the building. An integral design guarantees a high level of functionality and optical lucidity and offers an optimum of sustainability and low energy use. The fusion of functions considerably saves on materials and in certain cases labour as well. Furthermore, a clever attunement of functions and for instance the use of natural ventilation obviates redundant installations and makes a building energy efficient. An integral design also results in low maintenance and life cycle costs. Cepezed has a decade-long experience with integral design by now and continuously and actively seeks to match with other disciplines in order to develop innovative integral construction solutions.
