Several complexes for the storage of archives and cultural heritage. The Statutory File Depots respond to the upcoming renewal of the Archives Act, which compels companies and large institutions to preserve certain documents and pieces protractedly and under circumstances that reduce their natural decay to a minimum. The depots contain spaces for twenty-year storage, units meant for unrestricted preservation, and regular depots that meet less stringent standards. Furthermore, each complex accommodates a common reading room, a quarantine room, a studio, and lettable offices. The complexes have been designed as closed, rectangular volumes of six storeys, which are diagonally transected by a transparent strip containing the entrance, offices, a dispatch dock and a central atrium. The three-cornered sections on either side of this zone contain the depots. Energetically, the buildings are completely self-supporting, which guarantees a long-lasting cost-efficient exploitation. The Statutory File Depots are an initiative of Youngstreet/WAD bv. This year yet, construction of the first complex in Alphen aan den Rijn will commence.
