Design for a unique diving centre at a location still to be determined. The centre is primarily intended for recreation use by the increasing number of Dutch people who practise diving nowadays, mainly abroad. In this centre, they can train at an indoor facility in their own country. In addition Scuba Planet can be used by other members of the general public, and by members of the navy or the emergency services in their training. The complex consists of an enormous dome of transparent ETFE foil under which the facilities have been accommodated, partly above ground and partly below ground. There are various diving pools with depths varying from five to forty metres, which is the maximum depth that can be achieved when making use of an aqualung. In Dutch soil, it is possible to dig downward into the ground to a depth of around 25 metres without incurring an exponential increase in costs. For that reason, the forty metre pool rises fifteen metres above ground level, and this determines the total height of the complex. Besides the pools, a corresponding programme of dressing rooms, showers, offices and a diving-articles shop has been envisaged for the diving centre. Via a transparent wall, a restaurant offers a direct view of the underwater world of the pools. As it rises up out of the landscape, the dome harmonizes with an artificial ridge.
