Rotterdam urban villa

This 1970s urban villa is situated in a beautiful location in the city. It also happens to have a huge garden. Reasons enough for the residents to really want to make something of the house. cepezed carried out a complete overhaul of both the interior and exterior.

Pyramid roof with a view

We made a number of major visual interventions in the shell of the Rotterdam urban villa. The existing roof overhang of the pyramid roof was removed. The volume now has a clean-lined, vertically articulated zinc skin. This gives the house a powerful and yet restrained appearance.

There were already window elements at the front, and these were adapted to the rhythm and proportions of the new frontage. cepezed replaced the daylight openings in the pyramid roof with narrow glazed strips at strategic positions.

The interior of the Rotterdam urban villa

The pyramid roof partly kept its shape, but the interior was completely revised. The design is based on a strong zoning of functions in the urban villa.

The ground floor: peaceful haven in the city

The ground floor of the Rotterdam urban villa has three constructive bays parallel with the street. The strip at the back has a glazed façade oriented towards the garden. The lounge, the dining area and the kitchen look out onto it, and this has created a peaceful oasis in the middle of the busy city.

Complementary to the three existing voids, the lounge has been given an extra clear height, reaching up to directly under the pyramid roof.

Sleeping under the pyramid roof

The upper floor of the Rotterdam urban villa was also completely redesigned. The master bedroom is situated centrally under the peak of the pyramid.

The materials in the Rotterdam urban villa

The whole interior has been implemented using a limited and modest palette of materials. For the most part, the floor finish consists of strips of dark ceramic tiles laid in a random pattern. Only the bedroom and the walk-in wardrobe have a wooden parquet floor. The walls are finished with plasterwork.

Custom furniture

For various rooms in the Rotterdam urban villa, custom furniture was designed. For the walk-in wardrobe and the bed wall in the master bedroom, for instance. But also for the bathroom, library and kitchen. The furniture has a clean-lined appearance and was implemented in white high-gloss spraywork, Corian and oak veneer. The lighting plan with atmospheric and functional lighting includes many built-in fixtures.
