Colosseum Metamorphosis

The stage was designed as a contemporary version of the Colosseum in Rome and had to be able to hold some 5,000 people. The structure was constructed from steel scaffolding covered on the outside with a reproduction of M.C. Escher’s Metamorphosis. The Colosseum in The Hague would be suitable for performances as well as trade fairs and exhibitions.

In the end, it was not The Hague but Leeuwarden that became one of the two Cultural Capitals of 2018.
