The new hospital of Bravis will be designed by architectural combination Team aan de Schie (Vakwerk Architecten and cepezed) in collaboration with engineering firm Deerns Netherlands. After a careful selection procedure, the Bravis hospital chose these two parties.

between roosendaal and bergen op zoom
In 2026, Bravis will start building the new hospital in the Bulkenaar area, centrally located between Roosendaal and Bergen op Zoom. The schedule of requirements was recently completed. This sets out the conditions the design of new building. Around three hundred Bravis employees and patients collaborated on forming the schedule of requirements for over eighteen months. The document forms the basis for the design team that, together with Bravis, is responsible for determining what the hospital will look like.

"We are happy that we are now entering the next phase. In the design phase, it becomes increasingly clear what the new main location will look like. The program of demands is the basis for the design phase and is based on the future demand for care and geared to expected healthcare innovations," says Albert-Jan Mante, member of the Bravis hospital's Executive Board. "Naturally, patients, employees, our advisory bodies, the municipality of Roosendaal and local residents of the Bulkenaar area will also be involved in this phase."

team aan de schie
Bravis chose architect combination Team aan de Schie, a collaboration between Vakwerk Architecten and cepezed, after a selection procedure. The Delft-based architectural combination has knowledge and expertise in the field of hospital care and creating a pleasant and sustainable working environment. For instance, Vakwerk Architecten designed the Isala Hospital Meppel and the Slingeland Hospital and cepezed has good references when it comes to solving large, complex issues.
In choosing Team aan de Schie, the approach and impression of the team were decisive. Besides the contribution of their own expertise, the Bravis hospital considers the inclusion of employees and stakeholders in the design phase important. The approach and proposed process from Team aan de Schie are in line with that.

deerns netherlands
Deerns has extensive knowledge and experience in healthcare projects, knows the specific healthcare processes in hospitals and knows how to translate these into sustainable installation designs. Deerns was involved as a consultant in all newly built hospitals in recent years, such as the Amphia hospital, the first 'all electric' hospital in the Netherlands: Isala Meppel, Tergooi MC Hilversum, the earthquake-proof Ommelander Hospital Groningen and the recently completed Radboud UMC Nijmegen.

design phase
Team aan de Schie and Deerns Nederland will work with Bravis to come up with a design for the new hospital. This design phase will take about two years. Below is an infographic showing the steps being taken towards the new building.
