sustainable and budget-neutral town hall woerden completed

This week, the cepezed and cepezedinterior designed renovation of the Woerden town hall was officially delivered. The project is characterized by a high degree of sustainability and is a budget neutral realization.

The old town hall had an energy label G and the municipality minimally required an A+ label after renovation. Ultimately however, the renovated building was awarded the A+++ label, the second highest achievable. Energetically, the building has thus made a leap of more than six steps. For this, among other things it has been provided with a strongly insulating façade, an aquifer thermal energy storage and solar panels. It is also gasless and has been transformed from dark and closed to transparent and full of daylight. The A+++ label was granted based on extensive tests, including measurements of the façade’s airtightness and performance of the solar panels. Also important for the sustainability is the circular way the existing building was stripped down to the concrete skeleton. All materials released during the dismantling were strictly separated and no less than 98% is reused through a certified processor.

The budget neutrality stems, among other things, from the reduction in floor space and the various sustainability measures, which greatly save on energy costs. Including the finance charges for the renovation, the total operating costs of the old and renovated city hall are now the same.

Over the past days, the municipality has been busy moving in and today the new town hall has been taken into use. The official opening for invited guests is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon June 12th. Saturday June 15th, there is an opening and feast for all residents and interested parties.
