new town hall in the heart of hoofddorp

cepezed

A festive ceremony marked the driving of the first pile for the construction of Hoofddorp’s new town hall. Located on Raadhuisplein, the building will feature transparent glass façades that emphasise its public function. The side façades will be characterised by subtly serrated ceramic cladding.

bigger picture
The town hall's construction is part of a broader vision. Across Raadhuisplein, developer Treehouse CV is realising a mixed-use block comprising apartments, shops, and hospitality venues. Construction on this project has also commenced. The municipality aims to expand the housing supply in Hoofddorp and enhance the town centre’s appeal. Raadhuisplein plays a key role in this transformation. By increasing the density of the square's built environment, it will become more compact and intimate than before.

coming together
The four-storey new town hall replaces the former building from 1977, which was demolished in 2023. The main contractor is construction and installation firm Binx Smartility. Unlike the old building, the new town hall is designed to be a place where residents, entrepreneurs, politicians, the municipal board, and civil servants can come together. The front of the building, facing the square, is predominantly glazed. The ceramic cladding on the sides and rear tells the story of the polder: starting at ground level, the panels are glazed up to Amsterdam Ordnance Datum (NAP).

a new face for the town centre
The new town hall will become a defining feature in the city centre. The circular inner volume - housing, among other things, the public counters and council chamber - echoes the round shape of the former town hall. This volume stands on slender columns and acts as a true eye-catcher. It is clearly visible from the square through the glass façade. The curved interior walls are finished in textile, and together with a wooden tiered staircase, abundant greenery, and skylights, they create a welcoming building with a soft appearance.

cepezed and cepezedinterieur designed the new town hall. We thank Royal Haskoning, Halmos, ZRI, and Fokkema & Partners for the pleasant collaboration and look forward to completion, which is scheduled for 2028.
