tilburg bus station in full use

lucas van der wee | cepezed

On Tuesday March 12th, the new cepezed-designed bus station in Tilburg was officially opened. Since then, many travelers use the unique public transport facility every day. The bus station is shaped as a minimalistic, triangular circuit with a length of over 160 meters and has an awning covered with ETFE-foil. The bus positions are arranged around the outer side; one for deboarding and six for boarding.

The awning is equipped with 250m² of solar panels, with which it generates its own energy for the lighting, the digital information signs, the integrated heating in the waiting benches, a staff room etc.

The bus station has a highly integrated design with minimalistic detailing. For example, the slender columns incorporate water drainage, electric cabling, the S.O.S.-button and an intercom. The central load bearing stability beam, constructed from folded sheet steel, also functions as the rain gutter.

Finally, the bus station is also designed for inclusiveness; through a ramp wheel chairs can reach the elevated terrace and the hand rails between the terrace and the platforms carry braille signing.

cepezed worked on the project with great dedication and wishes all travelers a lot of travel comfort and convenience!
