architecture now: the architect as a developer

léon van woerkom | cepezed

Coming Wednesday September 18th, director-developer Menno Rubbens of cepezedprojects will be one of the speakers during the fifteenth edition of Architecture Now in Amsterdam’s Pakhuis de Zwijger. The series of talk shows about current developments in architecture exists since January 2017 and is organized in collaboration with the BNA and director of the Dudok Architecture Center India van het Klooster, who functions as the moderator as well.

The architect as developer is this edition’s theme. This because more and more architects are initiating and financing projects themselves. Some have always (partly) developed autonomously, others started growing into architect-developers since the crisis, taking a financial risk in their own projects. More control over quality, budget and process is often an important mainspring.

cepezedprojects has been operating as the development expertise of architectural office cepezed for ten years now. It was partly born from the wish to break through the usual hit-and-run project development of the past decades. The company also aims for a more flexible and adaptive building stock. Recently realized circular and adaptive buildings include the Temporary Courthouse in Amsterdam, The Green House in Utrecht and Building D(emountable), which is currently being built on the cepezed site in Delft. In De Zwijger, Rubbens lectures about the integral cooperation within cepezed, which even has its own construction management expertise.

More information about the evening can be found on the website of Pakhuis de Zwijger. It is also possible to make reservations for the evening there.
