amsterdam mayor opens circular and energy-neutral archive depot

Yesterday, the new Depot Amsterdam Noord was officially opened by the mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema. The new repository for the city’s archive, designed by cepezed and cepezedinterior, almost doubles the existing archive facilities and is completely energy neutral. Moreover, it has a flexible design that renders the building circular and removable: it is easy to use it differently, give it another function or to use it as a material donor for other buildings in the future.

depot portfolio

With Depot Amsterdam Noord, cepezed is adding a new project to its portfolio of special storage locations. Earlier, we designed the Eye Collection Center Amsterdam, the Regional Archive Tilburg and the Regional Historic Center Rijnstreek and Lopikerwaard. In addition, the CollectionCenter Netherlands is currently under construction in Amersfoort. This will accommodate the collection of the Rijksmuseum, the Dutch Open Air Museum, Paleis het Loo and the Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed (Cultural Heritage Agency).
