At the beginning of spring this year, just before the corona crisis broke out, the official opening of the renewed Forumpassage and Forumentree of MECC Maastricht took place during the Preview Day of the international art and antiques fair TEFAF! Now travelling is allowed again, we recently visited the building site and are pleased to present the first transparent and light transformation results:

upgrade & extension

June 2019, the first phased work started on the upgrade and expansion designed by cepezed and cepezedinterieur. This was an important step in making MECC Maastricht future-proof. When the overall transformation is completed in 2021, MECC will be able to respond even better to the wishes of organizers of international conferences and events.

renewed forumpassage & forumentree

The renewed Forumpassage is the connection between the main entrance and the adjacent halls, the congress centre and Forumplein. Within the modernization, ten multifunctional break-out rooms have been added, bringing the total to 55. A void has also been created in the Forumpassage for improved orientation and more spaciousness and transparency. The existing floors, walls and ceilings have been completely renovated. Part of the ceilings has also been raised. The generous new transparent façades on both the P4 side at the main entrance and the Forumentree at the Forumplein greatly improve the daylighting throughout the passage, as well as the visual relationship between inside and outside.

brightlands meeting point

The glass skin of the new building that surrounds the auditoriums is now taking shape. Under the name Brightlands Meeting Point, this transparent extension will offer space for new meeting facilities as well as additional exhibition foyers. Currently, the entire steel construction including floors are built. Work has started on closing the facade with triple glass and with vertical closed white glass parts. The latter will soon be equipped with coloured LED lighting.

The complete delivery of the MECC is scheduled for late February 2021 before the next edition of the TEFAF art fair in March 2021. More information about the transformation can be found on the MECC Maastricht website!
