The Tilburg bus station has been nominated for the Dutch Daylight Awards 2020; the biennial prize for special applications of daylight in buildings. The award has two categories: up to a thousand square meters and larger than a thousand square meters. In the last category, the new Tilburg bus station, together with four other projects, was selected for a jury visit on 26 October.

clear concept
The new bus station is part of the large-scale revitalization of the Tilburg public transport hub. The design of cepezed is entirely focused on passenger comfort and a clear traffic flow. The design concept is simply a uniform roof shape in a row of slender columns. The awning not only protects against the weather and wind, but also bright sunlight.

play of light
The transparent roof plays with both daylight and artificial light. The tightly stretched ETFE foil filters and scatters sunlight during the day. The solar panels above create a striking shadow play on the canvas. And in cloudy weather, the awning becomes diffuse but also very clear at the same time. After sunset, the roof transforms into an urban light fixture and, like a large lantern, contributes to the feeling of both intimacy and security.
