The MECC is also entering its next phase of implementation. After the completion of the Forum Passage and Forum entrance, the conference and event center in Maastricht is completely wind and watertight by now as well. Work continues on the inside of the complex.

breakthrough
Inside is where the breakthrough between new and existing buildings has been made. And where the transformation of the auditorium has started. Of the existing construction adjacent to the new building, parts have been removed. Floor and façade sections have been removed, but new floors and walkways have also been made. This makes it possible to walk all the way around the auditorium now, while the spatial end result is quite visible already.

transformation auditorium
To keep the auditorium's interpreter booth stable during the demolition work, a temporary auxiliary structure was used. The auditorium itself has almost completely been stripped. The seats have been removed and are being reupholstered. The finishes of floors and walls have been removed and are being replaced. The ceiling is also getting a makeover. The renovated auditorium will be fully equipped with LED lighting and various new technical congress and theater facilities. While the Front of House-equipment for lighting and sound technology used to be placed on a stand-alone table, a piece of furniture will now neatly be integrated into a row of chairs. Sound locks have been demolished and have been replaced with more subtle ones better fitting the renewed atmosphere.

tefaf
The renewed MECC will be delivered before the international art fair Tefaf, which is due to take place in MECC at the end of February 2021.
