start building Police headquarters The Hague

cepezed

Construction of a new headquarters for The Hague Police Force will start on the Binckhorst this summer. This so-called unit office will include offices, cells and a storage area for official cars. Special feature in cepezed's design is the shaft that runs through the middle of the building and visually connects all functions.
pleasant work environment
The Police and BAM Bouw en Techniek signed the agreement for construction in early February, which is likely to start before the summer - the technical design has already been completed. 'The Binckhorst will soon be home to a new police building that is functional for operations and at the same time offers a pleasant working environment,' says Anja de Bruin, Head of Operations Unit The Hague. 'We will have a modern, functional and future-proof building at our disposal.'
roof gardens
The new headquarters will be as open as possible, with roof gardens for police employees, indoor parking spaces and a convenient floor plan. It will soon accommodate around 2,200 staff on 48 thousand square metres of GFA and six floors. The employees come from departments that are currently spread across several locations in the city, including the current headquarters of the The Hague Police Unit. Consequently, the programme is very diverse.

puzzle with functions
Because of the relatively small plot, it took some time to puzzle with the functions that competed for a place on the ground floor. The ground floor was eventually reserved for specific, ground-based functions such as facility functions and expedition. Above it, the service vehicles are parked. On the top floors, with unobstructed views, are the office functions.

canyon
The 'functional layering' will soon be visible from the façade and also clearly recognisable inside. Another spatial characteristic of the building is the so-called canyon. This large interior street with ramps spatially divides the substructure (ground floor and first floor) in two. It has entrances and exits on both sides and opens up parking on the second, third and fourth floors. Above the canyon, five office wings with meeting, office and collaborative spaces are placed at right angles.

partners
On the Police Headquarters The Hague, cepezed and cepezedinterieur collaborate with Buro Sant en Co, Robert Jan Vos Lichtontwerp, IMD consulting engineers, engineering firm Nelissen and engineering firm Multical. Completion is sceduled for autumn 2025.
