Chunyang Chang, architect

has been working at cepezed since 2021. He uses his creative freedom in designing office and laboratory buildings with fervour.

Chunyang completed his Chinese studies in architecture with a master's degree at TU Delft. or his graduation, he designed a new rehabilitation centre at the Overtoom in Amsterdam. He questioned the patients and staff of the existing centre thoroughly and translated their answers into a building that offered freedom to the patients staying there and created interaction between the institution and the city.

After completing his studies, Chunyang gained expertise in designing housing projects. He interned at Neutelings Riedijk Architects and Barcode Architects and worked for some time at MLA+, the international arm of Maccreanor Lavington architects. He likes the unpretentiousness of cepezed, as well as the efficient working methods within the firm. He feels at home with the simplicity and 'honesty' of cepezed's architecture, the clear organisation of its designs, and the practical approach to circular construction.

Chungyang worked on Plus Ultra Utrecht. This sustainable office-cum-laboratory building in Utrecht's Science Park will include solar panels integrated into the sun blinds on the facade. 'The sun blinds store energy and offer comfort, just like a tree actually,' says Chungyang. He puts his heart and soul into the design of Plus Ultra Utrecht and looks forward to its realisation.

Motivation for his work comes mainly from drawing. He has been drawing and sketching since childhood, for him it is a way to sharpen and communicate ideas - a skill that serves him well as an architect.
