opening duurzaam en samenwerkingsgericht technova college

The cepezed and cepezedinterior-desgined Technova College in Ede festively opened its doors yesterday. The school is a new branch of the Regional Education Center ROC A12 and accommodates the intermediate vocational colleges for Technique & Technology, Media & ICT and Sound & Vision, all under one, newly named roof. Doekle Terpstra, booster of the Technology Pact 2020, held an inspiring opening speech in which he once again underlined the importance of practical education.

For the realization, a couple of older buildings on the ROC campus were dismantled; one older building remained and was integrated into the new structure. The new accommodation contains a mix of class rooms for theoretical and practice lessons and is entirely focused on collaboration and interaction. The plinth consists of workshops with a transparent façade that clearly shows what is happening inside and thus has a direct relation with the environment. The interior is focused on a rough, industrial atmosphere with strong colour accents.

The design strongly focused on sustainability. The building is almost energy-neutral (BENG); it is energy-efficient, derives energy from a biomass plant and is equipped with solar panels. The ventilation meets the standards for the ‘Frisse Scholen Klasse B’ (Fresh Schools, category B). Through generous light streets and transparent façade parts, the school receives a lot of comfortable daylight. ‘Join the Pipe’ water points stimulate a healthy water consumption and limit the use of PET-bottles.

The Technova College is very pleased with the new building. Director Ad van Dijk: “cepezed has created a beautiful design in which old and new perfectly come together. Both the overall appearance and the use of daylight are very beautiful.” Ad Kuivenhoven, Head of Housing & Facility Management of the Christian Education Group to which the college belongs, is very satisfied about the process as well: “The developers started a dialogue right from the start. Thus, from the drawing board on they were challenged to be critical about the building process and the choices of building materials. This has resulted in innovation, creativity and sustainability and that is reflected everywhere in the building.”
