Technova college

The Technova College in Ede is a Regional Training Centre with courses in Technical & Technology, Media & ICT and Image & Sound. cepezed made the design for the new building, for which some older buildings have been demolished to make space. One building was left standing and has been included with the new build.

Interaction

The new accommodation contains a mix of theory and practice spaces. The school is a breeding ground for developments in technology, entirely focused on cooperation and interaction. Not only within the building itself, but also with the regional business community.

The existing building has been seamlessly integrated into the new one. Due to the new façade, the new and the existing parts form a single entity visually. The existing structural element can only be distinguished on the outside by its greater height.

Workplaces on display

The plinth consists of workplaces with a transparent façade. In this way, you can clearly see what is happening inside and it gives the school a direct relationship with its surroundings.

In the interior, the emphasis is on a robust, industrial atmosphere with strong colour accents. The heart of the educational building is a double-height space referred to as ‘innovative workplace’. It is where the courses present their innovative products and where education and business can meet.

The innovative workplace simultaneously functions as the central traffic area, which also includes the reception desk.

There are two entrances, which are connected by an ‘entrance street’. This continues into the outdoor space, also designed by cepezed, with on the south side the other campus buildings and on the north side the car park.

Flexible teaching spaces

On the first floor of the new building, you find flexible spaces along the façades. Because the floor plan can be freely arranged, it lends itself to a variety of functions: theory classrooms, practical spaces, dynamic teaching spaces or offices.

Robust interior

The interior was designed by cepezedinterieur. The emphasis is on a robust, industrial atmosphere with strong colour accents. For the choice of materials, we consciously aimed to match the materials with which the students work themselves, such as wood and steel.

Sustainable building

Because maintenance and energy services were part of the assignment for the TechInova consortium that realized the project, our design had a strong emphasis on sustainability. So the building has GRP scores of 9.0 for energy and quality of use and 8.6 and 8.5 respectively for future value and health. The building is not only energy-efficient, it also derives its energy from a biomass power plant and solar panels. The ventilation complies with the standards for the Netherlands Enterprise Agency’s programme Fresh Schools Class B.

In addition, the school enjoys plenty of natural light through generous strip windows and transparent façade elements. Join the Pipe refill stations encourage people to drink water and limit the use of PET bottles.
