spaciousness and experience new pier are taking shape

Despite the surreal times we are living in and Schiphol operating on a smaller scale due to the corona situation, construction work at the airport continues, in line with the RIVM measures of course. This also applies to the new pier. We would like to briefly update you on the latest state of affairs:

climate adaptive facades

The execution of the façades is now far advanced. The northeastern curtain wall of triple glass is as good as completed. The southwestern façade of double glass has been implemented as well and has largely been provided with its second shell, which consist of single glass. The double skin on this sun-loaded side creates a climate façade that significantly contributes to both the sustainability and the comfort of the pier. The façades have a high degree of transparency and offer a generous view over the platforms, while the indoor climate remains pleasant.

temporary corridor

In addition, construction of the temporary connection between the new pier and the rest of the airport started at the beginning of March. A month later now, one third of the prefabricated modules have been positioned: the central, ground-based part that contributes to the stability of the whole, plus two connected parts on columns.

open floor fields

Inside, you can already recognize the spaciousness and quality of experience that the pier will have. The project has importantly been designed as a pleasant accommodation area with optimum comfort and a wide variety of seating areas and waiting options. The traveler will be able to choose where he prefers to sit; the different waiting areas are not restricted to any specific gate. Large voids that strongly connect the different floors strongly add to the open, spatial and transparent atmosphere.

gatehouses

The gatehouses were designed such that they can handle various passenger flows simultaneously. Their steel structures were already placed in December and by now the escalators have are been put into position. Meanwhile, work has also started on the façades and roofs. The roofs of the double gatehouses on the southwest side will eventually be provided with solar panels.
