fugro tech centre nominated for breeam award

In Nootdorp, a new head office for geodata specialist Fugro, Fugro TechCenter, has been under construction since February. cepezed made the super-sustainable design, that received no less than a BREEAM Outstanding certificate and now stands a chance of winning two BREEAM Awards.

breeam
The abbreviation BREEAM stands for ‘building research establishment environmental assessment method’. It is the most common sustainability certification worldwide. BREEAM certificates range from ‘pass’ to ‘outstanding’. For the latter certificate, the total percentage of the nine aspects of the score (for commercial buildings) must exceed 85 per cent. The BREEAM organisation has a clear mission with its labels, but it stands or falls with the clients' ambition: they must be prepared to go further than the legal minimum in terms of sustainability. Fugro was such a client.

best new construction non-residential project & peoples' choice
BREEAM certifications are not uncommon for cepezed designs. Art Depot CCNL even won a BREEAM Award in 2022, as best exemplary project in the Public Sector Post Construction category. On 10 July 2024, we will hear whether Fugro will also win an award. The geodata specialist's headquarters is nominated in the Best New Construction Non-Residential Project and the Peoples' Choice Award categories.

outstanding
Overall, Fugro's BREEAM score was 93 per cent. Among the reasons for Fugro's high score are the beautiful ecological garden, the biophilic design, the acoustics, and the demountable kit of parts construction. The water management system is also extremely sustainable and the great thing is that Fugro's specialists designed it themselves. To inspire others, once the building is completed, Fugro plans to give employees and visitors real-time insight into the building's sustainability performance.

figures
Fugro's exact BREEAM score is: management 100 per cent, health 90.76 per cent, energy 80.98 per cent, transport 52.07 per cent, water also 100 per cent, materials 78.57 per cent, waste 90.64 per cent, land use and ecology 77.78 per cent and pollution 90 per cent.

You can still vote until Wednesday 5 June: PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARD - BREEAM Awards
